Age is just a number, and this month is the time to remind people just how true it can be! September is the perfect time to celebrate healthy aging awareness month as the summer is coming to an end, kids are going back to school and life is back in the fast lane. During this hectic time, it’s important to think about better health practices and making positive changes to your lifestyle.

One easy adjustment is to engage in a more active lifestyle, both physically and mentally. Physically living an active life is a great way to help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other common chronic conditions. Mentally, as we age our brain begins to deteriorate, but one way to help combat this process is by challenging ourselves to learn something new. Completing daily puzzles or learning a new language are a few examples of how to keep the mind stimulated. Another way to work toward healthy aging is to reduce stress, as it is estimated that more than 90% of illnesses are caused or complicated by stress. You can reduce stress by getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and working through relaxation techniques - but there’s something more you might be able to do!

NAD+ treatment has recently been touted as the “the fountain of youth” for its ability to help with the anti-aging process. NAD+ naturally occurs in our body to help regulate metabolism and energy, as well as playing an important role in preventing age-related diseases, metabolic syndromes (such as diabetes), and chronic fatigue. Now, NAD+ treatment is praised for its ability to help restore and heal your body from everyday stress, toxins, aging, and illness at a cellular level. This new treatment basically gives the powerhouse of our cells, the mitochondria, what they need to create more energy for our cells and therefore us by way of IV therapy! It has also been discussed that NAD+ treatment can improve mood, reduce systemic inflammation, shorten injury time, and even increase cognitive abilities such as focus and memory. But, say you get a little scared around IVs - no need to fear! There is another way to help your cells! Micronutrient testing is done with a quick blood draw to analyze how well your cells are absorbing the nutrients you are eating. This way a physician can look over your results and provide suggestions for ways to improve your diet and reduce your stress levels based on your cells current functioning abilities. Not only is micronutrient testing just looking at vitamin levels, but it’s also looking at heavy metals, chemical, hormone, and allergen levels to improve your overall wellness. Micronutrient testing is offering a naturopathic approach to your health so you can help treat the problem, not just the symptoms.

To happy healthy aging awareness month! These are just a few of the ways to work on healthy aging, but there are so many more out there. Contact a Patronus staff member to learn more about how we can help you live a healthier lifestyle.
